Earworm

Another BMW commercial, though the song hasn't been definitively identified. Some on the web say it's "Sail" by AWOLnation, but others disagree saying it doesn't sound exactly like it. Some say it's a remix possibly, others say it could just be highly produced stock music which BMW has made use of before. Whatever it is, it's addictive and can't be shaken off easily.

Earworm

It always amazes me how much good music I miss when it first comes out, but I always seem to catch up with it years later on TV commercials. This sad, but sweet tune called Lullaby by Pink Martini has been used on the St. Jude Children's Hospital ads and though it starts off hauntingly, it ends on a more comforting, soothing note. It seems to express a mother's love for her child, with all its joys, travails, and hopes for the future. It's a very effective piece for a plea to support a good cause. Hearing it makes me think that any child would sleep more peacefully under its calming spell. St. Jude also recently released a more upbeat ad with their version of Hey, Jude, or Hey, St. Jude as it's labeled in the video. Very fun and hopeful seeing so many happy, smiling children singing this classic!

The World is Full of Beautiful Things

Seeing the recent Etihad Airways commercial featuring, "The World is Full of Beautiful Things" performed by Bobby Darin took me back to childhood memories of watching the musical Doctor Doolittle where the same song is sung by Anthony Newley. I've presented Darin's version below and Newley's version can be viewed here. While my personal preference is for Newley's more emotional orginal version, I'm beginning to enjoy Darin's more peppy pop version now too. Enjoy whichever appeals to you!

Time for a Commercial Break

The video above showcases one of the greatest compositions for a commercial - Clorox of all things! This video has combined the music for two Clorox commercials, one featuring pirates, the other mermaids. They're complementary pieces and are very cinematic and grand. You can view both the pirates and mermaids commercial versions on Youtube of course. Cdbaby has some info on the artists who composed this music, H. Scott Salinas and Francois-Paul Aïche. The Blue Sky Project was a charity project started by Clorox designed to benefit students of music.

Best Car Commercial - BMW's 1996 "Canals of New York"

Here's the commercial that kicked off my interest in well-done commercials. Wonderful music! And while I am generally interested in original music composed for ads, Tamara Warren of Forbes has compiled a great list of Ten Best Songs In Car Commercials with famous tunes.
